"They were going to go around again but when the pilot pushed
the throttles forward, he got full power on the right wing and
totally lost it on the left wing. As a result, the left wing
dropped, hit the runway and he cartwheeled through the alert area.
He went between uploaded B-47s on his wingtip, wiped out a building
that just the day before was loaded with JATO bottles and came to
rest where you see it."
First-hand report submitted by Raymond J. Tomory, TSgt, USAF (Ret); A2C 3918th
Combat Defense Squadron, 1961 - 1964.
* webmaster's note: Upon close examination of the first photo on the left, it
appears that the tail number is 32258. Notice that the tail section, the rudder
and stabalizer, is intact in the third photo from the left.

recorders on the base. Since I was Sp. Svc, we had purchased it to tape Skyking
football instead of using film. I went to Scotland and taped fly overs by other
F-111E's on the route taken by 018. This was then presented at a briefing to David
Jones who was USAFE Commander at the time."
