"...photo was taken while a buck Sgt and I were refueling RF 101 tail number 101 in the
18 TRS Squadron area on the far side of the base."

"...taken of me in 1964 or 1965. Not hard to see what I
was doing. Maybe someone will recognize the aircraft or me. If
this picture comes thru to you ok, you will see that the paint
was flaking off, and I don't remember for sure where this was
on the flightline."
Guy A. "Tony" Smith, A2C, 3918th CDS, Jun 1964 - Jun 1966.

"I painted this for an Air Show at UH on NATO Day July 6, 1969.
Shortly after, a Tone Down Program was implemented and the yellow turned
olive drab. The crane came from LAON AFB, France, after
they kicked out U.S. Government. The chassis was driven to
the North Sea. It and the boom were shipped to England.
It was assigned to 66TRW."
Submitted by TSgt. Edgar "Mac" Brown 1968 - 1971. |
"...picture of a group from the 66th Avionics Maintenance
Squadron (1968/69) working on an Instrument Landing System
problem at Upper Heyford. I believe that is Bill Pouch in
the cockpit and Lee Goren on the ladder. I think the third
man might be Dan Watkins."
Submitted by Ed Bardwell, 66th AMS, Oct 1967 - Apr 1970. |
"Another shot from the 60s. There was always a group from
the 66th TRW sent on TDY to Morona De La Frontera Spain each
winter to avoid the bad flying weather at RAF Upper Heyford.
This is Dan Watkins , Ed Bardwell, and Tom Kelso getting
ready to climb aboard the C-130 for the 30 day TDY. This
shot was probably taken in the winter of 1969."

"In the 1960s and '70s the Kaman HH-43B was extensively
used by the USAF as a short range SAR helicopter. Here,
62-4533 demonstrates its firefighting capability at RAF
Upper Heyford, England, on 29 August 1970. Note the based
F-100 Super Sabre in the background."

1977 "Law Enforcement (LE) Security Policeman Ken Bachman
serves on duty at Gate 1, the Entry Control Point to the
Flightline. We used to call it "The Main Gate". This
was a busy post for Law Enforcement Security Police,
to say the least! I recently learned about the "new"
Main Gate next to the Admin. building beside Camp Road, or
"the Queen's Highway", as we used to call it. The
Base used to be wide open to the general public until you
got to this gate at the Flightline."
