The building in the background was the chow hall. Just to the right was the NCO Club. The Airmans Club was in the cluster of buildings between the base and Lower Heyford."

He was a long range RADAR maintenance tech. Transferred to Anglia RATCC when we closed Midlands RATCC down on 1 Jan 1964. A little history: The Midlands RATCC worked RADAR and conventional Center an Approach Control for all the UK SAC bases. We closed Bruntingthrope and Greenham Common in late 1963 and closed Midlands. At that time we moved to the control tower and continued to work conventional (no RADAR) center and approach control for RAF Brize, Fairford and Upper Heyford--as well as VFR tower for Heyford."
