The 1990's

In 1990 I was fortunate to take part in the Air Pageant from Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire. As a volunteer aircraft restorer, with the now Aircraft Restoration Company, we flew in with our Beech 18 (C-45) along with elements of The Fighter Collection. Our pilot that weekend was Lee Proudfoot who is now a renowned display pilot as is John Romain who runs the Aircraft Restoration Company and who is seen flying the TFC's B25. We certainly enjoyed the american hospitality and were billeted with the MP's. Their loud evening music was amusing but in the morning all was very quite and we over-slept. Another memorable point was that the Officers Mess had two sides, one which was plush and similar to other RAF mess' and in the other side sandbags and camo netting I guess to help let off steam? Around and above the bar were I guess the names of all aircrew. It didn't take much working out why a couple of them should be inverted and painted red! Regards Bob Sparkes
