Last Flight; all 4 Squadrons together.
"Here is a picture I was told was the last time all
4 squadrons flew together prior to the 42nd inactivation."

"As promised I herewith send you some pictures taken at RAF Upper Heyford on
July 9th (F111) and July 10th (EF111) 1992, the day 42nd ECS was disbanded. The
pictures taken on the 9th are 20FW Commander Col. Larry E. Stellmon, being hosed
by his spouse and children after his final flight in F111E 67-0120/UH marked
"20FW". The other one is the Colonel (The Chief) posing in front of "his"
aircraft with the Commanders of 55FS (blue tags), 77FS (red tags) and 79FS
(yellow tags), who flew with him in his last (4ship formation) sortie. The
pictures taken on the 10th are EF111A 66-0050/UH, marked "Rockin' Iraq" , and the
markings on 42ECS squadron aircraft 67-0042/UH "42ËCS". Note the 50+ Desert
Storm I marks !!"

"This patch was for the F-111E Avionics Modernization
Program. 77FS was the first squadron to get AMP jets. UH
had approximately 50 or so of the modified jets before
shutdown I believe. To the best of my knowledge, none of the
EF-111A's at Upper Heyford had been upgraded with AMP prior
to the closure of the 42nd ECS."
Submitted by Craig Happ, 77th AMU, later 77FS Specialist Flight
Chief, Sep 1990 - Aug 1993.
|
"This patch was used for units assigned to Incirlik
AB after the war. Upper Heyford EF-111's from the 42 ECS
were assigned to this operation right up until deactivation
of the unit. Cannon assumed the aircraft in place at Incirlik
when the EF-111's were reassigned to the 27th TFW."
Submitted by Craig Happ, 77th AMU, later 77FS Specialist Flight
Chief, Sep 1990 - Aug 1993.
|
"This was the unit at Incirlik Air Base that had
operational control of any Upper Heyford (or any other unit)
assigned to support Operation Provide Comfort after the end
of the Gulf War. Upper Heyford EF-111's from the 42nd ECS
were at Incirlik until deactivation and assumption of
aircraft ownership by the 27th FW, Cannon AFB, NM."
Submitted by Craig Happ, 77th AMU, later 77FS Specialist Flight
Chief, Sep 1990 - Aug 1993.
